Foods that Fight Illness – Boosting your Immune System

It takes more than an apple a day to keep the doctor away. It turns out that eating some pretty surprising nutrients will help keep your immune system on guard.

You can ensure your body and immunity run smoothly by rounding out your plate with plenty of colorful servings of fruits and veggies, plus 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, at the very least. The following ingredients can add extra flu-fighting punch to your winter meal plan.

What about other foods?

Well we searched through other sources and aggregated their lists. What did we find? There were a lot of foods listed multiple times as well as most of the articles focused on the same message, a healthy diet.

But here’s the commonly listed foods:

  • Garlic
  • Oregano
  • Tumeric (it’s a spice and it’s delicious!)
  • Ginger
  • Fruits and vegetables (specifically, blueberries, raspberries, and broccoli….not all at once, unless you like that sort of thing)
  • Coconuts/coconut oil
  • Whey protein
  • Lean Beef (because of the Zinc)
  • Tea

Sort of a hodge-podge of foods and probably difficult to eat all of those in a day, but we wanted to try to attempt a daily meal plan with all of them:

Breakfast

Protein Shake:

-scoop of whey protein

-banana

-blueberries

-4-5 ice cubes

-skim/soy milk

Lunch

Yogurt&Fruit Parfait (don’t ask me what a parfait is)

-1 Cup of Greek Yogurt (or plain)

-your choice of berries

-granola

Dinner

Tumeric Chicken & Broccoli

or

Savory Beef Vegetable Stew

Throughout the Day

Drink lots of water and tea. Green tea was listed the most from our searches.
